What's New
The New York City Economic Development Corporation has received 30 responses to its Request for Expressions of Interest for the implementation of the City's proposed congestion pricing plan. Proposals were sought to provide an overall approach to the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of a congestion pricing system. Respondents were asked to identify key issues involved in implementing such a system and to provide their ideas for innovative operational and technological solutions. (Reported December 11, 2007)
The New York City Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission met on December 10, 2007 and began considering a range of competing strategies to the Mayor's congestion pricing plan, with the understanding that such strategies must yield at least the same reduction in congestion as the Mayor's proposal or Federal Urban Partnership funding will be lost. Prior to the meeting, Environmental Defense had issued an evaluation of three different alternatives that had been proposed, criticizing each for not being as effective as the Mayor's plan.
